Gorgonize

Virgin beauty on the coast of the sea,

                  As gorgeous a priestess as ever could be.

A chastened woman, desired by all,

                 But dedicated to Athena’s hall.

The untamed sea would not take “no”,

                  Could not bear to let her go.

Ignored her pleas with selfish refusal,

                  Goddess’s punishment, swift and cruel,

Now none must look her in the eyes,

The eyes that never told you lies,

The ones that once would break a heart,

Forever cursed to gorgonize.
